Ekal Canada

Ekal Youth Team (EYT) in Toronto is a group of highly energetic volunteers age 8-18 years that are committed to making a difference through their hard work and dedication. The team works collectively to raise awareness and funds for Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of Canada by participating in and organizing creative events. They are also involved in serving their local communities through various efforts such as volunteering time at neighborhood schools, senior citizen homes, community centers, etc. 

On December 2, 2017, EYT organized a Winter Carnival under the guidance of Mrs. Bharti Gupta, Ekal’s Youth Coordinator. The event featured lots of fun games, food, photo booth, raffle draw, face painting, henna, live band and music, ​etc. that was enjoyed by all attendees and left them asking for more. The volunteers exhibited immense leadership and worked effortlessly as a team to raise $1,000 from the event. In addition, with the objective of serving the local community, EYT organized a toy drive at the event where each attendee was requested to bring a toy to place under the Christmas tree. This initiative raised lots of toys, warm caps and backpacks for boys and girls of all ages. All collections were donated to the less
fortunate children of Black Creek Community Healthcare.

The event also received media exposure. Local community newspaper Snapd covered the event and showcased the efforts of the team. Karan Maheshwari, a 9 year old volunteer, mentioned to Zee TV Canada how proud he was to be associated with Ekal Vidyalaya because it supports education in rural and tribal part of India. Volunteers Vedant, Ansh and Arnav, currently in grade 10, expressed their excitement to be part of a wonderful cause when interviewed by Zee TV Canada. Another young volunteer, 8 year old Adi Trikha’s stellar performance at the game booth during carnival proved that age was no barrier.
