Announcement: New Winnipeg Chapter

To The Ekal Community:

We are pleased to announce the addition of the Winnipeg chapter to our Ekal Canada family, effective April 13th, the first day of Chaitara Navratri, the day of Baisakhi and Ugadi. It is a very important day in the history of Ekal Canada.  This chapter will be lead by highly qualified and dedicated individuals as follows:

Narendra Mathur is an Ex Merchant Navy officer, having commanded large ocean going ships trading all over the world. Narendra ji moved to Canada in 1996 and worked with Transport Canada, in Winnipeg, managing all ships operating in the Northern Arctic waters of Canada. After retiring from Transport Canada, he resumed living in Winnipeg with his wife Padmini. The couple has three daughters all of whom are Doctors of Medicine, or Studying to be Doctors of Medicine.

Narendra ji has been very active in the local Indo Canadian community. He has worked as a Board member of many local community organizations, such as the India School of Music and Dance; India Association of Manitoba; Indo Canadian Cultural & Heritage Association; Hindu Society of Manitoba of which he is a Past President as well as a past Trustee. Narendra ji brings a great deal of leadership skills that will be of benefit to Ekal.

Vandana Sahai, after finishing her Master of Science Degree (Organic and Drug Chemistry), she worked as a Chemist in Indian Customs and Central Excise laboratories in India. Vandana ji moved to Canada 27 years ago and studied Management and Chemical Engineering. In her professional career in Canada, she was involved in medical science research on HIV and the Influenza virus. She is presently working for an Aerospace Company in Winnipeg.

Vandana ji is engaged in the community service as follows:

  • Member of Manitoba Chapter of SCWIST (The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology) to encourage and empower women and girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in Canada.
  • Elected as a Secretary of the Board of Governors of Hindu Society of Manitoba.  Served as director of Temple management committee.
  • Principal of Dr. Madhuri Jain Vidya Bhavan, run by Hindu Society of Manitoba to preserve and promote Hindu culture, rituals, and languages.
  • Hosted Bollywood songs programs in Winnipeg Radio Station.

Vandana ji is very passionate about Indian music.  She enjoys singing – classical, semi classical, Sufi,  Bollywood. Since the year 2006, Vandana and her family have been hosting Holi festivals in the Hindu Society of Manitoba temple. She has one daughter, Amy Sahai.  Amy is a final year Medical student at the Max Rady College of Medicine in Winnipeg.

Vandana ji has a great passion to provide education to the less fortunate section of the society.  Following is a quote from Vandana ji from Hitopadesh :  विद्या ददाति विनयं विनयाद्याति पात्रताम् । पात्रत्वाध्दनमाप्नोति धनाध्दर्मं ततः सुखम् ।।
